Susan Elcox Biography
Susan learned to hook in the late 1980's. She was hooked by the
ability to be creative with fiber without precise directions on how
to develop pieces. One's artistic side is allowed to develop and she
encourages that creativity in her students of today.
After developing a variety of pieces in different genres of hooking
(pictorials, florals, geometrics, orientals and so on) Susan started
teaching hooking as well as encouraging it through hosting of
workshops. Susan is a certified McGown Rug Hooking Teacher and has also studied teaching under the Association of Traditional Hooking
Artists of which she is a member. Click the link to "Classes" and you
will find the latest listings where she is teaching. Private
instruction is available as well at any time upon pre-arrangement.
Today, Susan's greatest passion is developing hooked pictures that at
first fool the viewer into thinking they are painted. Once they take a
closer look, and discover that it is fiber! She has shown a few of her
pieces in galleries and wishes to do more of that in the future as well
as participating in more art contests. In 2006, Susan's piece "Idaho
State Capitol at Dusk" was selected out of over 200 pieces from around
the country for a juried show that ended up showing 53 pieces in the
Art Source Gallery in Boise, ID. In that same year she was selected to
be one of 8 Idaho artists whose work divided the chapters in the Idaho
State Controller's Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006. 600
hardcopies and 135 CD-ROM's were distributed of this report both within
and outside of Idaho. Appearing inside this report was "Idaho State
Capitol at Dusk" as well as "In Grandmother's Garden", along with her biography.
