Hook-Out

Definition....An experimental hooking session where we will go to an outside location and hook what we see.  Painters call this painting en Plein Aire.

Organized by Susan Elcox.  She will be hooking with you.

Date:  TBD

Location:  TBD

 Bring:

  • A small piece of backing large enough to fit on your frame.  We will be hooking something small on that, not much larger than 6" square, so that we can finish it in one day.  If not you will be able to finish at home in just a few hours.
  • A camera, so you can take a picture home of what you were hooking.
  • A stash of wool in a variety of colors.  I will do the same to supplement your stash.
  • Your cutters, misc hooking tools (hooks, scissors).
  • A comfortable lawn chair of some type to sit on.
  • Some sort of bag or carrying device for all your stuff.  We may have to walk a little ways.  Ond of those suitcases on wheels would be perfect.
  • Your good humor!

To benefit blind Gambian Rug Hookers.....

Heather Ritchie from the U.K., started working with Gambians several years ago in order to teach them rug hook as a way to earn a living.  She has experienced much success with this effort, but requires more funds in order to continue to assist the Gambians.  This year, Heather requests that all hookers around the globe hook on November 21 in order to raise awareness and funds for her efforts.  To find out more about Rug Aid and Rug Rave Day, click here:  http://www.rug-aid.org/rug-rave.html.

Treasure Valley Rug Hookers invites the public to attend this event to learn about rug hooking and to learn more about the Gambian efforts.  We welcome anyone to visit or to join us to hook for the day.

Heather has prepared and optional pattern for the event.  You can order it on Monks Cloth for $25 or on linen for $30.  Part of the proceeds of this pattern go to Rug Aid.  See New World Rug Hooking if you desire to have one of these patterns.  The image of the pattern is featured on Rug Rave link above.

 Please join us!
